
A RECENT EMAIL FROM A SUPPORTER…

As a supporter of your recent campaign (and an old law school friend), I wanted to congratulate you on your recent attempt to serve your community in public office. Although the result was not what either of us would have preferred, it was nevertheless very impressive that you put forth the time and effort to make the run. There are a lot of people out there who bitch and complain about the world, but very few people ever take the time to actually engage in the process and attempt to achieve actual change. For that, I commend you.
Anytime you put yourself "out there" the way you did, it's a risk. I hope you continue to stay involved in politics and I'll be ready to break open my meager checkbook again if and when you decide to run in the future. In closing, I think this quote from Teddy Roosevelt is particularly appropriate and applicable in this instance:
"It is not the critic who counts, nor the man who points how the strong man stumbled or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly...who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause; who, at best, knows the triumph of high achievement; and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat."
